LENT
Christians honor the 40 days and nights following Christ’s baptism when he went into the wilderness without water and food and was tempted by Satan.
BIBLICAL MEANING AND PURPOSE OF LENT
Lent is meant to be a time or repentance. These 40 days are set aside to praise and worship the Lord; to read the Bible more, and to pray more often. Christians who observe Lent anticipate deeper intimacy with the Lord.
LENT DEFINITION
Many Christians have heard of Lent, but do all know what it means? According to the Meriam-Webster dictionary, Lent means “the 40 days from Ash Wednesday to Easter observed by the Roman Catholic, Eastern, and some Protestant churches as a period of penitence and fasting.”

Between Ash Wednesday and Easter, many Christians observe this 40-day period. Popularly regarded as a period of fasting; however, there are many ways to make the Lenten period meaningful without missing meals.
ASH WEDNESDAY
Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent. The name comes from the tradition of putting a small cross of ash on people's foreheads at our Ash Wednesday Service if they wish.
This is a sign of confession and helps us to remember that we rely on God for forgiveness from our sins.
The ash comes from palm branches burned after our Palm Sunday Service the previous year.
